LIFE GREEN VULCAN consortium boasts a balanced proportion of SMEs, large enterprises and academia, covering the whole supply-chain on the applications targeted. The partners are all Italian and they are leaded by the company Innovando.

Innovando is a thriving Italian company that provides end to end industrial waste management services to SMEs and large enterprises. Established in 2014 to support tyre producers and importers with an innovative extended producers responsibility compliance solution, Innovando quickly grown to become the third Italian player with over 30.000 tons of end-of-life tyres under management collected from over 2000 collection points, across the country (comprising tyre and vehicle repair shops, tyre dealers and tyre wreckers). Innovando has steadily integrated new services to become the one-stop all-round partner for waste management.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

INNOVANDO, in addition to coordinating the project, will undertake a detailed environmental impact analysis of the solutions implemented and will ensure an adequate supply of raw material from ELT recyclates

With its leading tire technology, the company is a major supplier of original equipment to all major vehicle manufacturers.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

Bridgestone will ensure replicability across its product range and transferability to more demanding tire segments including truck tire threads.

Also through the cooperation with a pan-European and increasingly global network of more than 1700 partners from Industry and academia, CRF conducts collaborative research initiatives at the national and international levels in partnership with all the key public and private stakeholders concerned with Sustainable Mobility, targeting specifically the industrial exploitation of research.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

Centro Ricerche Fiat will develop the compound recipe for volume production manufacturing of the spring pads from the SRC Devulcanised Masterbatch and the material and supplier qualification procedure in order to validate final performances of rubber spring pads containing recycled rubber from SRC Devulcanized Masterbatches.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

Stellantis will implement a full testing procedure for quality control purposes on rubber components containing recycled rubber.

Rubber Conversion products and services are helping rubber manufacturers in reshaping their business values by reusing rubber offcuts and ELT-derived rubber materials (End-of-Life Tyre) as property of renewable materials and energy, while lowering health risks, committing to environmental sustainability and consequently helping the economy. Rubber Conversion’s sustainable rubber compounds are manufactured from post-production and postconsumption rubber. Thus, while reducing raw material costs and improving carbon and material footprint, our commitment to material recycling and upcycling is helping mindful companies improve their product sustainability and profitability through our ecologically sound products and innovative principles.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

Rubber Conversion will engineer a filler enhanced masterbatch, the SRC Devulncaised Masterbatch, from its commercial range SRC grade of ELT-derived devulcanized powders.

UNITN has an extensive experience with the management of EU projects funded under FP7 (119 projects), H2020 (97 projects so far), LIFE (3 projects) and DG Justice (15 projects). As for the topic of the current project, UNITN (in particular prof. Nicola Pugno) has published about 440 international journal papers in the field of mechanics of solids and materials and has received excellence grants from EU such as Erc StG, Erc Poc, Fet Open, Fet Proactive, Graphene Flagship (where he was the Task leader of graphene composite modelling).

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

University of Trento will deploy a tailored version of its simulation-based optimisation tool to support fine tuning of the SRC Devulcanized Masterbatch and of the compounds of both the CRF spring pad and Bridgestone PCR tire thread in order to reach the desired performance levels set forth by the Technical Data Sheets.
