Rubber Conversion and Innovando – Life Green Vulcan project coordinator – became members of ERMA | 06 October 2022

Considering the low reuse, recycling and recovery rates of waste rubber, one of the main problems Life Green Vulcan aims at resolving, there is a clear interest in opening a dialogue on this topic with the most relevant institutions. The Action Plan on Critical Raw Materials, promoted and supported by ERMA, aims at developing resilient value chains for EU industrial ecosystems and to reduce dependency on primary CRMs by implementing sustainable substitutes and promoting breakthrough technological innovation. ERMA is, therefore, trying to involve the most relevant stakeholders, among which the industrial actors along the value chain and here, our project partners: Rubber Conversion and Innovando.

To achieve these objectives, EU Commission outlined 10 concrete actions and the firs one is the establishment of a European Raw Materials Alliance (ERMA). Similarly, some of the basic scientific discoveries and results obtained with the Life Green Vulcan project are already being transformed into practical and commercially relevant innovations with the potential of reaching the market, on top of benefiting the society.

Both Innovand’s and Rubber Conversion’s representatives have been actively participating in many ERMA’s meetings and working groups, together with other stakeholders from industry, academia, research, national authorities, associations and financial institutions, with an aim of building a sustainable, competitive and innovative materials value chain in Europe. For this reason, officialization of alliance access of both companies represents a logical step in the strategic strengthening of relations with the most relevant institutions such as ERMA.

Rubber Conversion’s (https://www.rubberconversion.com/ ) powerful method of recycling has an attention-growing potential for the development of quality raw materials from the ELTs (End-of-Life tires and general rubber goods), while increasing significantly the recycled content in new tires. The circularity-inspired concept recognizes the importance of considering the full lifecycle of materials and redesigning products and operations to encourage greater material recovery, while implementing GHG reduction strategies and eliminating disposal costs.

Innovando’s (https://innovandotech.com/it/ ) innovative waste management concept, both in physical – with 100% coverage of the national territory with its green logistics network and digital nature – enhancing transparency and consumer information (contributing this way to the resource-efficient market) is fully in line with the principles of ERMA action.

Congratulations to both companies!
